The Grand Canyon in Arizona is one of the most popular destinations to visit in the world. It is estimated that around 5 million people a year visit this beautiful seventh world wonder, as it has been called. Hiking around the Grand Canyon is one of the most popular vacation activities for this site. The trails around the rim are flat and easy to maneuver about while some of the trails will lead you all the way down to the river. Be advised that a hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon will be an all day trip to the bottom and then another day to climb back up. Sightseeing at the Grand Canyon is probably just as popular as hiking it. The view alone is breathtaking and is unlike anything that you have ever seen before. Touring this rock formation can be done from the comfort of your car, a nature walk, or even horseback. For the thrill seeker visiting the Grand Canyon there are various activities including cross-country skiing and whitewater rafting or more calm outdoor activities like camping and fishing.

While the Grand Canyon’s view is a site to see, it’s north rim is less easily accessed than that of the south rim. The south rim is where most visitors arrive at to take in the Grand Canyon’s magnificent beauty and travel down one of its paved or unpaved pathways. The north rim of the Grand Canyon also has fantastic views that are 1000 feet higher than that of the south rim. Walkways are also accessible, but it is traveled less than the south rim is. The Grand Canyon has beautiful sights to explore from the outside and the inside. The people who love an adventure and a thrill will want to explore the inner canyon. Hiking through the canyon can be done through the South Kaibab Trail or the Bright Angel Trail, which will both lead you down the Colorado River. Both of these trails are for the more experienced and stronger hikers. For those who want to hike, but not be so worn out afterwards, there are pack mules that will take you up, down, and around the Grand Canyon. A river trip around the Colorado River will take you around to explore the Grand Canyon. If you take a raft out that is powered only by oars, it will take you as long as 3 weeks to complete the journey. Your best bet is ride along a motor powered raft as this journey can be completed in as little as one week.

A trip to the Grand Canyon is definitely the trip of a lifetime. Besides hiking, you can enjoy fishing, bike riding, or tours from the sky in a helicopter. Whichever mode of transportation you choose, the view will be amazing. Areas outside the Grand Canyon allow you to enjoy nature walks, camping, and horseback riding or even cross-country skiing during the winter months. A great way to see the Grand Canyon is at the local IMAX Theater. Here you get an up close and personal view of this beautiful creation in nature. You may want to take part in one of the many tours that the Grand Canyon offers in either a raft ride or on an ATV ride. Restaurants and shopping are also great activities to pursue while you are on vacation at the Grand Canyon.
